Get crazy!

My mother had a way about her that not many people understood, including me. She was what you would call a "radical christian". Some people even called her "crazy", including me. But, her love for the Lord was the strongest that I have ever witnessed. She would go to great lengths to spread the word of God and share HIS love with anyone she came in contact with. I remember a few times where she would pick up a hitchhiker and bring them closer to their destination. Before she dropped them off, they would be given two things; a hot meal and something to drink, bought at the nearest burger place, and the knowledge of how much God loved them. Some even received Jesus as their Lord and Savior before they were dropped off. She witnessed to everyone she met; the cashier at the local store, the mailman, and even the woman sitting next to her in the doctor's office. Her love for doing God's work was endless. One thing my mother was not...was successful. She did not have a high paying career. We did not live in a huge house. She actually lived pretty poor for most of her adult life and she never required many "things". She was content with the little that she had. Not that success is not a good thing, it is great if you can find it in your lifetime and God longs to bless his people, but what about being effective in your lifetime? There is a difference between going through life and being successful and being effective. It is our "effectiveness" that impacts others. Our success is for us, our effectiveness is for everyone else. At my mother's memorial service, many people walked up to us and shared stories of how my mother had effected their lives with the love of Christ. No one ever mentioned how successful she wasn't. Maybe my mom wasn't "crazy" afterall. I Corinthians 15:10 "But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect."
