My son the werewolf.

I was fixing Mason his plate for supper the other night, when we had the most interesting conversation.

It went like this...

Mason: Mom, until I go back to school, I'm going to be a werewolf.

Me: Really?

Mason: Yep. Just until I go back to school.

Me: Why not after you go to school?

Mason: Because, yah are my family. I won't attack yah. But when I get to school I will be around alot of people, and my friends, and I might ya know...arrrgghhh (said with hands up like claws and teeth snarling) hurt somebody. I know yah Mom. (said with a "Duhh" attitude) I love yah, so I won't do that here at home. But, I might attack one of my enemies.

Me: You have enemies? (said while thinking...he's only eight. Enemies?)

Mason: Yeh mom. Well, you know...all the bullies and stuff. I wouldn't want to have to kill them while I was a werewolf.

(We discussed privately who the bullies were.)

Me: (trying not to panic on which issue to cover first..bullies or murder) Well, you know that bullying is wrong, and we even have to pray for the bullies...right? Sounds like this boy may not know Jesus.

Mason: Oh...he knows Jesus. He just hasn't met this werewolf!

I couldn't help laughing hysterically...

This, of course, opened up a bigger and more serious can of worms, about how bullying is wrong and that it needs to be talked about. We continued on a bit, talking through how killing is not what God would prescribe for this said "bully" and how murder, being a ten commandment and all, was very wrong to suggest. Afterwards...we both agreed at the end of our little conversation...that being a werewolf just at home, was the best choice for everyone...

Although this was a funny conversation between my son and I, we had to address a serious situation. Bullying is no laughing matter...it needs to be talked about.

**Speak to your kids about bullying, no matter how big or small the situation...it needs to be addressed. Encourage them to speak to an adult about it. Remind them that when they speak up, they become not only their own hero, but someone else's hero down the road. Teach love...not hate.
