The burnt biscuit.

What would you do in this scenario? You have a family of five to feed. You have five biscuits. You place them in the oven and begin helping your child with homework. The timer goes off for the biscuits and you remove them from the oven. Surprisingly, you notice that the fifth biscuit, located in the back of the pan...is burnt. You now only have four biscuits...what would you do? Pause for a moment to answer this question.................................................................................................................... When told this scenario and asked what I would do, my response was..."I would take the burnt biscuit and give everyone else the good biscuits." Logical answer, right? Then I was asked why? My response, "Because I want my children and my family to have the best." Then I was asked, "What are you teaching your children?" My response, "That I would do anything for them and they deserve the best." Then I was asked, "But, what are you teaching your children about what you deserve? About your own worth?" I sat thinking for a moment... They continued, "You are teaching them that you are only worth a burnt biscuit." I paused... It hit my gut. I teared up. 85% of the women who were asked this question, said they would take the burnt biscuit. When this question was asked to men, 100% said they would throw away the burnt biscuit, and divide the other biscuits into equal parts, so that everyone received their share of the biscuits. I gotta give credit where credit is due here...bare with me ladies. Those men hit this one right on the head! Applause!!! Shocking, I know. (smiley face) Here is my take on things... This story reminds me of when Jesus fed the multitudes with one loaf of bread. Yes, of course He used the power of miracles to multiply the loaves, but He never gave up and settled for what was in front of Him. He didn't say, "Oh, well there's just not enough , someone will have to do without." Nope. He made a way. He made a way, so that no one did without, not even Himself. I'm not saying we should be selfish as mothers..that's not it at all. I'm saying that we as mothers, need NOT be so neglecting of ourselves. We too, deserve a good biscuit. I know many areas of my life, that I have taken that burnt biscuit. Feeling that it was the only thing that I was worth. Not feeling worthy enough to have something good and tasteful. But, taking that burnt biscuit, and being left feeling empty and with a burnt (bitter) taste in my mouth. It's time for the good biscuit... It's not selfishness on our part, it's LOVE for ourselves. Isn't that the goal to teach them...to love themselves as God loves them. To know who they are in Him. To know their worth in Him. Isn't that hard to do at times, as mothers, as children of God...to love ourselves? To see, what it is that our children see in us, when they look up at us in admiration. To see what our husband's see in us, when they hold our hand and say "I love you". And most importantly, to see ourselves as God sees us. To know, that He who is love, loves us with an infinite love. We worship Him when we love ourself! And...He thinks we are worth so much more than a burnt biscuit. And you know what? I want that. I want to see how much of a treasure I am in God's eyes. I want to see how important I am to Him. And that's the one thing I want my children to know...how much their Father in Heaven loves them, and how He holds them at high esteem with Him, worth every crumb of a good biscuit! No more burnt biscuits! I'll take a piece of the good one! Thank you God, for teaching me that even though I fall short and feel that I am unworthy of many things, Your countenance says that I am worth it all! Thank you for the gift of Grace and Mercy. Help me to pass the legacy of Your love to my children. Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.

Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven.

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old he will not depart from it.
